Product Description
Weaponry: The primary armament of the SM4 120mm 6×6 wheeled self-propelled mortar is a 120mm mortar mounted at the rear of the WMZ551 6×6 armored vehicle. This mortar is mounted on a rotating platform capable of 360° horizontal rotation and 45° to 80° elevation. The mortar fires rearward through an opening in the rear of the roof, covered by a hydraulically operated two-section hatch that can be hydraulically opened and closed to improve concealment and battlefield survivability. All firing operations can be performed from inside the vehicle. The mortar has a maximum rate of fire of 12 to 15 rounds per minute and can fire various types of ammunition, including high-explosive (HE) and proximity-fused high-explosive (PFHE) rounds. It carries a total of 30 rounds of ammunition. The 120mm mortar has a range of 500 to 13,000 meters. The weapon system is manually operated, front-loading, and equipped with a recoil protection device. It has two firing modes: pull-type fuse and impact fuse. A 12.7mm heavy machine gun is mounted on the roof of the crew compartment using a gun mount.
Design and Protection: A 12.7mm heavy machine gun is mounted on the roof of the crew compartment using a gun mount.
The SM4 120mm 6×6 wheeled self-propelled mortar vehicle is designed in two parts: the front is the crew compartment, and the rear is the mortar system. The roof at the rear of the vehicle is raised to increase internal space, thereby accommodating the 120mm muzzle-loading mortar and its ammunition. The SM4’s hull is capable of withstanding small arms fire and artillery shell fragmentation. The SM4 has a crew of five, including the driver and commander located at the front of the vehicle, and three mortar operators. There is a windshield in front of the commander and driver, and a hinged armored cover is mounted above the windshield in the combat zone. There is a small forward-opening door on each side of the hull and between the first and second axles. An additional hatch is also located at the rear of the hull. The SM4’s total weight is 17,000 kg.
Mobility: The SM4 120mm 6×6 wheeled self-propelled mortar is powered by a 320hp Deutz BF8L413FC diesel engine, paired with a ZF 6HP500 automatic transmission with a torque converter, offering five forward gears and one reverse gear. The engine compartment is located behind the driver’s compartment and is separated from the rest of the vehicle by an airtight bulkhead. The vehicle has a maximum road speed of 100 km/h and a maximum range of 800 km. The SM4 is fully amphibious, propelled in water by two propellers mounted on either side of the rear of the hull, driven by a power take-off unit. The maximum speed in water is 8 km/h.
Equipment: Standard equipment for the SM4 120mm wheeled self-propelled mortar includes a nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) protection system, driver night vision equipment, an automatic fire suppression system, air conditioning, and run-flat tires. Even if a tire is punctured by bullets or shrapnel, the vehicle can continue to travel 100 km at a maximum speed of 40 km/h. The mortar is connected to a ballistic computer and a computerized fire control system (FCS), which can calculate artillery setting data, assist the gunner in firing, and store and process various data and instructions, thereby improving combat effectiveness.
