Product Description
The HQ-17AE is an advanced short-range field air defense missile system developed by China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). It is the export version of the HQ-17A (Hongqi-17A). Its core design purpose is to provide accompanying air defense protection for mechanized forces and to intercept cruise missiles, attack helicopters, drones, and precision-guided weapons.
1. Missile Technical Parameters
Interception Range: 1.5 km to 15–20 km (maximum range varies depending on target type).
Interception Altitude: 10 m to 10,000 m (10 km).
Maximum Flight Speed: Approximately Mach 3 (1,020 m/s).
Guidance Method: Semi-active radar homing, supplemented by television/thermal imaging tracking assistance.
Missile Dimensions: Weight approximately 165 kg, length approximately 2.9 m, diameter 0.23 m.
Launch Method: Vertical cold launch, equipped with direct-force rapid turning technology, shortening the time for intercepting close-range targets. 2. Fire Control and Radar Systems
System Integration: Each vehicle integrates search radar, guidance radar, and missile launchers, enabling independent operation.
Radar Performance: Employs a fully solid-state phased array radar (AESA/PESA), possessing strong anti-jamming and target detection capabilities.
Multi-Target Strike: A single vehicle can simultaneously guide 4 missiles to attack 4 different targets.
On-the-Move Combat: Possesses the capability for on-the-move search, tracking, and launch; maximum combat speed reaches 25 km/h.
3. Chassis and Mobility
Vehicle Chassis: Utilizes a 6×6 high-mobility wheeled chassis (manufactured by Dongfeng Motor).
Maximum Road Speed: Up to 90 km/h.
Payload: Each combat vehicle carries 8 ready-to-fire missiles (two sets of 4-tube launchers).
Strategic Transport: Significantly lighter than tracked vehicles, facilitating rapid deployment via large transport aircraft (such as the Y-20). 4. Typical Organization and Application
A typical HQ-17AE air defense battery usually includes:
1 command and control vehicle
4 missile launch combat vehicles
2 loading vehicles (equipped with a crane, capable of loading 4 missiles at a time) and ammunition transport vehicles.
