SM1 81mm vehicle-mounted rapid-fire mortar

Product Description

The Chinese CS/SM1 vehicle-mounted 81mm rapid-fire mortar is a breech-loading, long-barreled mortar. The barrel is mounted on a cradle and connected to the recoil and recovery mechanisms. The forward-firing automatic mechanism includes a breechblock, hydraulic buffer, ammunition feeder, reloading device, and locking mechanism. The running gear includes a lower carriage, main carriage, locking device, and shock absorber. The traverse mechanism is electrically driven and equipped with a fire control computer, enabling automatic calculation of ballistics and rapid traverse adjustment.

The CS/SM1 vehicle-mounted 81mm rapid-fire mortar has a wide operational range, suitable for use in urban, desert, plain, and mountainous terrain, offering high mobility. It uses magazine loading and can fire in both indirect and direct fire modes, single-shot and burst fire, with a maximum range of 6 kilometers. It can fire four rounds in two seconds, providing sudden and concentrated fire to eliminate enemy targets behind cover or on reverse slopes, offering fire support for infantry units.

The CS/SM1 is equipped with WS87 81mm high-explosive mortar shells, steel ball shells, incendiary shells, and smoke shells. Utilizing the curvature of mortar trajectories, this mortar can be used not only to attack personnel, strongpoints, and fortified positions, but also to attack various targets concealed behind bunkers, in canyons, behind mountains, in jungles, and other undulating terrain. It is suitable for both regular army deployment and guerrilla warfare.

The CS/SM1 uses a 4-round magazine with automatic feeding and a single-fire/burst conversion mechanism. For the first shot, the gunner manually opens the breech, selects single-fire or burst mode, loads the magazine, operates the gun, and fires. After firing, the breech automatically opens, allowing for the loading and firing of the next magazine. The CS/SM1 rapid-fire mortar has cooling threads on the barrel. The CS/SM1 rapid-fire mortar has a 360° azimuth and can fire at high angles. The CS/SM1 rapid-fire mortar uses the Type 87 81mm long-range fragmentation mortar shell, with a burst rate of fire of 4 rounds/2 seconds, a combat rate of fire of 40 rounds/minute, a maximum range of over 6,000 meters, and an effective direct-fire range of 400 meters.

The chassis used by the CS/SM1 rapid-fire mortar is the Dongfeng “Mengshi” 4×4 high-mobility vehicle. This model has two main series: long-nose and short-nose, single and double-row soft and hard tops, sloping-back soft and hard tops, box-type hard tops, and high hard tops, totaling eight main models. The single-row soft-top model features a removable tarpaulin and side windows; the windshield can be folded down to mount light and heavy machine guns; the interior of both soft and hard top vehicles has a central mounting platform and steps; the roof can be fitted with a weapon turntable for heavy machine guns, high-altitude machine guns, and grenade launchers; and the rear compartment has a missile launch platform, forming a lightweight, highly mobile wheeled combat system. The maximum road speed is 125 km/h, and the maximum road range is over 600 km. Therefore, the CS/SM1 rapid-fire mortar possesses excellent tactical mobility, enabling it to quickly enter or withdraw from positions.

The CS/SM1 vehicle-mounted rapid-fire mortar can be equipped by paratroopers, special forces, rapid reaction forces, and marines, primarily for rapid assaults, airborne operations behind enemy lines, flanking maneuvers, and urban warfare. It utilizes its sudden and powerful indirect and direct fire to provide fire support for attacking units.
